Homeowner’s Insurance Inspection Process
Thank you for choosing DePolo & Associates, Inc., Allstate Insurance to provide you with the protection you need for your family. We know that there are many choices for insurance coverage, and we appreciate you choosing to do business with us.
Home insurance companies complete home inspections to help mitigate the risk of a loss and to make sure that the homes are insured to the proper limit. This process helps keep home insurance rates down, reduces the risk for a loss, as well as helps ensure that your home is covered properly.
As part of our new customer process, Allstate will be doing an EXTERIOR ONLY inspection of your home. This process provides two things. First, it double checks the replacement cost value that we have placed on your home to make sure that it is correct. Secondly, it will identify hazards that might exist on the property that could be a concern for a loss. If you have a higher value home, Allstate may request details of the interior of your home.
*Allstate has instituted a new option where you are able to do the inspection on your own virtually. If you elect to follow this process, just follow the prompts from Allstate to complete the virtual inspection. The virtual inspection is not required, and you can ignore the prompts should you choose not to complete it.
If you do not do the virtual inspection, Allstate will continue with the inspection process as usual. You do not have to be present during the inspection. Our replacement cost value is representative of both conversations with you, and information obtained from public records. The inspector will take measurements for square footage and will verify things like siding type, roof type, and design of the home. This information will make sure that your home is insured to the proper amount.
Hazards that the inspector will be looking for include items that offer a high probability of loss. These can include but are not limited to :
- Large areas of peeling paint
- Roof issues (curling shingles, missing shingles)
- Attractive nuisances (unfenced swimming pools, abandoned vehicles)
- Missing gutters and spouting
- Missing railings on steps and porches
- Cracked foundations
- Broken windows
If any issues are identified, Allstate will notify our office immediately. At that time, we will call you regarding the concerns found as well as the amount of time that Allstate is allowing for repairs. Due to legal constraints per the Department of Insurance regulations, you may receive a cancellation notice as well as a refund. This DOES NOT mean that your policy has already canceled. Allstate is required to send this to you right away based on the possibility of a termination due to the underwriting inspections. Please hold on to the check. If all repairs are complete, we can simply reapply the refund and your policy will remain in force.
If you have any questions about this process or anything else, please feel free to give us a call.
Sincerely,
Jay DePolo
